Poor weather forced Zoe Clint to end her bottle drive in support of Victoria Hospice early, but that wasn’t enough to ruin its success.

Clint raised more than $500 for the non-profit that made a difference in her life and the lives of her parents Cindy Hannah and Bill Clint as they reached the ends of their lives.

“Honestly I didn’t have any expectations for how much we would raise, I was just going to be happy with anything … if we could help more than one person, that would be ideal. We definitely helped more than one person,” Clint said.

The fundraiser was so popular, people were even asking to donate their bottles as she and her friends were packing up. But the real surprise came when she called the Quadra Street bottle depot the following Monday to find out how much they had raised.

She was initially told the drive had raised more than $2,000, much higher than her $500 count taken as she packed up. It turns out Clint was not the only one hoping to lend Victoria Hospice a helping hand that weekend.

“We did the bottle drive on the Saturday, and another group did one on the Sunday,” she said. “It was just another group of random people. Everybody has lost somebody, but I didn’t realize how many lives Victoria Hospice has touched. I was really impressed that in the same weekend we were able to gather so much to help them. It just blows my mind.”

Clint said Greater Victoria residents can help the organization any time they are at the depot, no bottle drive required. The charity now has an account and anyone looking to donate can simply let staff know which organization they would like to support.
