A Vincent Avenue resident whose attention was drawn to an “odd” man walking through her neighbourhood Thursday morning was right to be suspicious.

She watched as the unfamiliar man knocked on her neighbour’s front door in the 400-block of Vincent Ave., then went around to the rear of the home. The next time she saw him, he was inside the home.

A call to Saanich police drew multiple officers and a canine unit to the area.

The suspect was spotted by police on Inez Street, but he fled when officers approached.

Following a foot chase through Gorge Park, the suspect was tackled on the front lawn of a Gorge Road home.

He had in his possession jewelry and an XBox game console taken from the home.

“The successful arrest of the suspect was due solely to the actions of the witness,” Sgt. Dean Jantzen said.

A 27-year-old man with no fixed address faces possible charges of break and enter, and resisting arrest.
