While many Greater Victorians appreciate the savings and ease of bulk shopping, the cross-town Costco trek for those in Oak Bay, Saanich and Victoria can leave a lot to be desired. Add the time spent finding a parking spot, line-ups and negotiating crowded aisles, and you have a recipe for frustration.
That’s why Westshore Grocer is offering to make the trip for you. For a small fee, they’ll shop, sort and deliver your favourite Costco products straight to your door, making affordable shopping easier – and no Costco membership is required to take advantage of the service.
Save the headache
Westshore owner Steve Hartman says that getting to Costco and finding parking, navigating crowds, and standing in line is often less than ideal. “I don’t enjoy this experience myself, and we’ve been members for some time,” he says.
Hartman says he started Westshore Grocer shortly after his family moved from Ottawa, which was served by five Costco warehouses. When they realized there’s only one Costco servicing all of Greater Victoria, “we thought a shop and delivery service would work here.”
Serving a broad clientele
For the cost of products plus a $5 delivery fee, Westshore Grocer employees will deliver to Victoria, Oak Bay, Saanich, Esquimalt, Sooke and the West Shore communities. Hartman says the service should appeal to people with busy schedules, working parents, retirees or folks who don’t have a vehicle of their own.
“We’ve found that a lot of people that live in the West Shore are happy visiting Costco themselves,” he says. “But when you’re looking at a round trip of up to 40 kilometres, then our service becomes much more attractive.”
