In a celebration of local art and artists, Oak Bay Avenue transforms into a week-long art show for the first Oak Bay Avenue Art Walk from Aug. 10 to 18.
Between Richmond Road and Monterey Avenue, 25 businesses will have artwork on display to allow a free self-guided art tour so people can enjoy the pieces at their leisure "whether it’s over a lunch break, after work or during a weekend outing," noted a news release.
On Aug. 10, various locations will hold special events including artist demonstrations, prize draws, art activities and more, along with live music on The Avenue from noon to 2 p.m.
"Art enthusiasts can view other pieces at any time thanks to the Arts Alive program. Arts Alive is Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture’s annual public art program. Sculptures are displayed for up to a year at outdoor sites throughout the municipality. Local business and community groups sponsor the artists who loan the pieces for the duration. Until November the public can vote for the favourite piece," noted the release.
A downloadable, printable map of the self-guided tour is posted on the events page of visitoakbayvillage.ca as well as on the event Facebook page. Printed maps are available at locations along Oak Bay Avenue.
