Starting in a few days, construction in Saanich may cause additional delays for drivers at night and early in the morning.
Construction on Shelbourne Street, at the intersection of Cedar Hill Cross Road, is set to begin on Feb.18. Part of the Shelbourne Street Improvements Project, the works will include sidewalk construction and road repaving. The interruption is expected to last approximately one month.
To ease congestion, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at all times, and left turns will be prohibited throughout the project.
Traffic signals will be turned off during construction, and drivers are advised to follow posted signage and directions from construction personnel. Night work will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes where possible to avoid delays.
Construction will also begin this month on Pear Street between Shelbourne and Cedar Hill. The street will be restricted to local traffic only.
