Sisters kick off Victoria Baroque’s eighth season with Bach’s Double Concerto

Victoria’s own period ensemble, Victoria Baroque, celebrates its eighth season, showcasing a diverse selection of 18th century masterworks in a series of five concerts. The ensemble brings together early music specialists from Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and beyond, for explorations of chamber, orchestral and vocal works from the Baroque and Classical Era. Playing on the instruments of the 18th century, Victoria Baroque transports audiences to the soundworld of the Baroque period.

Sisters Chloe and Christi Meyers kick off the 2018-19 season on Friday, Sept. 14 performing Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. Both are accomplished violinists: in Victoria, Christi is known for her appearances with Victoria Baroque and as the assistant concertmaster of the Victoria Symphony. Chloe is the concertmaster of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and has performed, toured and recorded with internationally acclaimed ensembles such as Montreal-based Arion Baroque Orchestra and Les Boréades. The concert is a wonderful opportunity to hear the two sisters join their artistry in one of the most transcendent concerts ever written. The program, Bach and Beyond, will also feature works for varied combinations of baroque instruments by Vivaldi, Telemann, Muffat, and Bach’s second cousin, Johann Bernhard.

Victoria Baroque concerts are at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of St. John the Divine, 1611 Quadra St.

Single tickets – $28, $25 senior, $5 students and child – are available at McPherson Box Office, at the door, and (three weeks prior) at Ivy’s Bookshop, Munro’s Books, and Long & McQuade. Season subscriptions are available through the Victoria Baroque website and office, and at the first concert.
