Local musician Julian Mulhall plays some of the pianos during the bus tour. Mulhall, a pianist since he was 11, started off listening to his father’s classic rock and folk albums such as Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot and the Beatles. In the later years of high school he started to perform with the Victoria Rhythm and Blues band where he discovered a deep new found love for the music of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire and Marvin Gaye to name a few.

After graduating high school he has continued to perform around the city with multiple cover bands and a few original projects, one of which the band “Electric Sex Panther” has managed to attract a large fanbase on the local scene. He completed a Diploma of Music Performance degree from the conservatory of music and studied with Louise Rose where once again his musical taste and direction completely transformed. Since then Julian’s focus has shifted to the complex and endless world of jazz. His current most inspiring hero’s are the sounds of Bill Evans, Kenny Barron, Paul Desmond, Chet Baker. Mulhall plans to attend the University of Toronto for a bachelors degree in Jazz Performance in September.

Also part of Arts Fortnight, an archives exhibit continues in the foyer of municipal hall until the end of August. The collection of paintings by artists living in Oak Bay from 1850 to 1950 is available for viewing Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of municipal hall, 2167 Oak Bay Ave.
