Willows elementary centennial celebrations kick off this weekend

History comes alive at L’Ecole Willows elementary’s centennial celebration.

School alumni are invited to join in festivities including a wine and cheese, a picnic, three sittings of Victorian tea and an alumni walk in the Oak Bay Tea Party parade June 4.

“It has been a real awakening to how important an elementary school experience can be,” Willows principal Wendy Holob said of centennial preparations. “That impression can drive their life. It is amazing to me.”

She has spoken to former students as old as 84 and looks forward to seeing several generations of Willows’ alumni at what she hopes will be a celebration of a lifetime.

“It would be marvelous to see people who left here in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s,” Holob said. “They may meet a friend here that has come back for exactly the same reason.”

Celebrations run May 28 and 29 and June 4 and 5. For details visit www.sd61.bc.ca/school/willows or call the school at 250-592-2486.
