Victoria Writers’ Society hosts writing contest

The contest has three categories: short fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry

Are your words winning?

Every year, the Victoria Writers’ Society hosts a writing contest to find the best original, unpublished work from writers living on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. The contest has three categories: short fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry.

Short stories and creative non-fiction up to 2,500 words can be submitted. Two poems of fewer than 48 lines in any style can be submitted. The topic for work is open.

To ensure blind judging, the title, but not the author’s name, must be at the top of each manuscript page.

Successful entries will be published in the Island Writer Magazine.

The entry fee is $15 for members and $20 for non-members; deadline for entries is May 1. Cash prizes of $100 for first prize, $75 for second prize and $50 for third prize will be awarded.
