Victoria Hospitals Foundation welcomes new board chair

Joan Yates takes over role with organization focused on raising money for medical equipment, special projects, and research

The Victoria Hospitals Foundation (VHF) welcomed Joan Yates to her new role as the chair of the board of directors.

Yates first joined the VHF board of directors in 2023 and officially began her role as chair on Oct. 24. Yates has a diverse background with roles in education, government and public relations, including serving as the dean of the School of Business and vice-president of student experience at Camosun College. As the daughter of a nurse, Yates has long had a strong interest in supporting hospitals, health-care workers and patients alike.

“As an expert communicator Joan’s valued experience will help to support the incredible momentum felt by the foundation in recent years,” the foundation stated in a release.

The VHF is a charity focusing on advancing hospital care locally by raising money for medical equipment, special projects, and research. The governance team is composed of people with backgrounds in medical, business and finance sectors of our community, who provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance.

Yates will follow previous board chair Donnie Wing, who left earlier this year along with fellow board members Tom Siemen and Emilie de Rosenroll.
