Greater Victoria Rotarians, including some from Oak Bay, this week put the spotlight on the service organization’s worldwide campaign to end polio.

On Tuesday the group gathered outside the old Customs House on Wharf Street, onto which the words End Polio Now were projected in giant letters. Originally scheduled for Feb. 23 as part of Rotary International’s 26th anniversary of its efforts to eradicate the crippling disease worldwide, it also aimed to bring attention to the ongoing campaign, which has raised $555 million.

The Victoria light-up was postponed because of the snowfall that day. Others did go ahead in such cities as Seattle, Lombardy in Italy, Cape Town, South Africa, and Byblos in Lebanon.
