Thousands of people and 56 floats highlighted last year’s parade with the promise of similar fun Sunday.

The weather is rarely predictable, but the Peninsula Celebrations Society parade promises Christmas music blaring and lights twinkling in the early evening as the parade kicks off at 5 p.m.

Organizers suggest coming prepared and packing layers for the parade that starts along Resthaven Drive and turns onto Beacon Avenue. It continues to run the length of Beacon Avenue, turning right onto Second Street and ending at Ocean Avenue.

Once the parade completes its route, people are encouraged to move to Beacon and Bevan wharves and the Sidney waterfront around Beacon Park. From there, they will be able to witness the Lighted Boat Parade, which starts at least 15-minutes after the Sidney Sparkles Christmas Parade.

No matter where you stand along the route, you’ll see the parade in all its glory. Be sure to arrive early as spots can fill up quickly. The parade runs for about an hour. There is no parking directly along the parade route.

As is the tradition, a sail past follows along the Sidney shoreline.

Boats will be tied up at Port Sidney and will be lit at dusk. If weather becomes dangerous boats will stay at Port Sidney tied up, available for viewing.
