With the new year comes a new planting season and for the fourth year in a row the Saanich Seedy Saturday is the first seed sale of the season.

This year’s Saanich Seedy Saturday is Jan. 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific.

The annual event is arranged by Haliburton Farm and averages around 600 people. It’s grown to now have a waitlist for vendors.

“The event is attracting much interest,” said Haliburton farmer and organizer Elmarie Roberts. “There is a vendor waiting list after all tables have been sold out in the Mel Couvelier Pavilion.”

Guest speaker Dr. Trevor Hancock will present about the new Feeding a One Planet Region initiative.

In addition to local farms, vendors are coming from Gabriola Island, Vancouver and one travelling from Powell River to showcase a biochar business.
