Residents can spot the Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS) tall ships as they return from their first inaugural deployment of 2019 on Friday.

Ships Pacific Grace and Pacific Swift return with a crew of sea cadets from across Canada who spent the week aboard sailing through the Gulf Islands. According to the organization, 1,700 young people aged 13 to 25 take part in programs each year. They learn to sail, grow relational skills and develop work ethic through voyages with SALTS.

During the trip, trainees had the opportunity to handle sails, steer the wheel, climb the rigging, stay on anchor watch at night, and take part in every aspect of shipboard life. Trainees returning aboard ship hail from many different provinces and communities from across Canada, including a number of local Vancouver Island Sea Cadets.

The tall ships are set to enter the Inner Harbour between 2:45 and 3 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
