Rotary Club of Oak Bay continues winning ways

Oak Bay Rotary was first in the district in per capita funds given to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Rotary Club of Oak Bay members can freely chant “we’re number one” since they’ve been voted the most giving club in the district.

Rotary District 5020 Governor Judy Byron recently announced that in 2011-2012 the club was first in the district in per capita funds given to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

The club donated $22,696.92 to Rotary International, a per capita sum of $349.46.

The international fund supports various humanitarian and educational Rotary programs including the $200 million challenge for its promise to the children of the world to eradicate polio.

The PolioPlus program helps Rotary fund operational costs, such as transportation, vaccine delivery, social mobilization, and training of health workers, and support surveillance activities.

This is the second time that the Rotary Club of Oak Bay was recognized for its contributions to Rotary in 2011-2012. Last June, District 5020 awarded the prestigious Floyd Olsen International Club of the Year award to the club for its involvement in five international service projects in Guatemala, Rwanda, Mexico, India and Malawi.
