The annual Saanich Cycling Festival is this Sunday in the parking lot behind Saanich’s municipal hall.

Local bands Cookeilidh (11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.) and Hung Jury (1:15 to 2:45 p.m.) will be on stage, and there will be food and plenty of activities for children and families to partake in from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kids should arrive earlier than 1 p.m. to prep their bike for the decorated kids rides, which are 1.5-kilometre and 2.2-km routes. There’s a bike rodeo, cycling obstacle course and skills challenge, face painting, inflatable obstacle and basketball shooter game, interactive information booths, bike safety tent and festival food and concessions.

Sunday is also Earth Day, another reason to celebrate sustainable transportation.

Be sure to pick up stamps while biking to the event route at one of the designated celebration stations (which close at 2:30 p.m.). Bring your map with celebration station stamps to the festival for a chance to win a variety of great prizes.
