Oak Bay News reader Kevin Lee and his family are particularly impressed with the solar eclipse shadows displayed today.
“Our family really enjoyed the eclipse, particularly the shadows cast, like the flowering Dogwood tree on our front lawn that seemed to be growing out of and against our house on Hampshire Road,” Lee said. “Or the special crescent shapes in shadow that the eclipse created.”
Oak Bay resident Ron Carter headed with a thousand or so other area residents to the Mt. Tolmie Solar eclipse site Monday, Aug. 21.
Some 1,500 people made their way up Mount Tolmie on foot and bike Monday morning to watch the moon cover most of the sun.
When the moon blotted out 90 per cent of the sun at around 10:20 a.m., some clapped and cheered, as if applauding a performance in the theatre. Others simply stood in silence as they gazed through telescopes of various sizes, eclipse glasses, welding glasses, and viewers made out of seemingly every kind of cereal box.
