Prizes, appies on menu at breast cancer fundraiser

Victoria man hopes to raise $10,000 at evening event

A man running a marathon to raise awareness about breast cancer is hosting a free fundraising event.

Christopher Mavrikos lost his mother, Lynn, to breast cancer in 1997. Since then, he's raised more than $110,000 for breast cancer research, and this yea he'll also run a marathon in hopes of inspiring people to give.

As a lead-up to his longest-ever run, Mavrikos is hosting the ThinkPink! fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Binab Strasser Re-Max Alliance Office, at 510 Yates St.

Entry to the event is free.

Appetizers, drinks and a silent auction will be by donation and raffle prizes are available to those who attend.

Mavrikos hopes that whether people attend the event or not, they each donate $42 – $1 for each kilometre he will run at the GoodLife Victoria Marathon on Oct. 9 – to his cause at www.thinkpink2020.com.

All proceeds go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
