Penny Farthing turning 10

The Penny Farthing Pub is reversing the directionality of gifts for its 10th anniversary, offering free food and drinks to those who help celebrate.

“It’s just about getting all the locals that have supported us for the past 10 years to come out,” said pub owner Matt MacNeil.

Ceilidh Briscoe, a fiddler who lives in Oak Bay, and her father Wayne will play tunes in the evening – including a song Wayne wrote specifically for the Penny’s birthday that features the names of Oak Bay residents.

Anniversary festivities happen Wednesday (May 25) from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Running concurrently is the grand opening of McNeil’s 56-seat wine and charcuterie bar next door, Vis a Vis, which replaced the space previously occupied by the cold beer and wine store.
