Eight Oak Bay gardens throw open the gates to raise funds for nature.

The gardens showcase a variety of styles, English, urban, wild, native, low maintenance, large and expansive, small and cozy, with unds raised supporting the Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society and BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (ARC).

“Not only do ticket holders get to enjoy eight lovely Oak Bay gardens, but also afternoon tea or coffee, a great silent auction with some very nice prizes, as well as an alternative plant sale where a selection of drought and deer resistant plants will be on sale for those looking to make sustainable changes in their gardens,” says organizer Pamela Mountjoy. “We will have expert gardeners on site at the pavilion throughout the tour to answer questions and share planting ideas.”

It’s the first time the UWSS has partnered with SPCA Wild ARC on a fundraising event, she adds, noting both organizations are committed to addressing issues of management and care of wildlife.

“Our focus is not only on raising money to support the work that we do as volunteers but also to build community and raise awareness of what’s going on in our neighbourhoods with respect to the care and management of the wild animals that share our space,” Mountjoy said. “It has already been a community building experience for me as I’ve met eight wonderful homeowners who have generously opened their gardens to us and a long list of business owners who have enthusiastically donated items to our auction and expressed keen interest in the event.”

The Father’s Day Garden Party Tour includes Afternoon Tea and a large silent auction at Windsor Pavilion for $25.

Tickets are available online through https://www.uwss.ca/garden_tour, Ivy’s Bookshop, Thorn and Thistle and BC SPCA.
