Monterey Recreation Centre is preparing for its transformation into a bargain hunter’s paradise, as the annual Oak Leaves Bazaar is fast approaching.

“We ask the community to bring in their kindly used things,” said co-ordinator Pat Chung.

While they welcome most items, they can’t accept clothing, baking goods, sports equipment, computers, TVs, or large furniture.

Donations from the community can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday Oct. 22 to Wednesday Oct. 24 or from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday Oct.25.

Volunteers will spend Friday setting up and the bazaar will take place on Saturday Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“It is really fun and the sorting is a hoot because some of the things you look at and have no idea what it is,” Chung said. “We really do have fun.”

The big fundraising event features rooms filled with art, jewellery, books, CDs, records, toys, fabrics, linens, garden supplies, and a dedicated Christmas booth.

Proceeds go to the Monterey Recreation Activity Association to support its membership through sponsored activities and support for 30 clubs based at the centre.

The 41st annual Oak Leaves Bazaar is at Monterey Recreation Centre, 1442 Monterey Ave. on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
