It’s award season for Oak Bay’s Young Exceptional Stars

Nominations are open for the 12th annual YES awards

Oak Bay’s Young Exceptional Star (YES) committee has a set the date for its awards ceremony.

They will be awarded on Tuesday, April 30, at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel.

The YES awards recognize the accomplishments of students in Grades 6 through 10, who live or attend school in Oak Bay and have overcome obstacles to achieve their goals.

Nominations are now open, with a deadline of April 2. Nominators simply need to provide a brief one-page document showing how their candidate has excelled at one or more of the areas of achievement listed. Once the forms are filled out they should be brought to the attention of Caroline Lawrence, sports co-ordinator at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. Forms can be dropped off in person, faxed or emailed. Ten local youths including Zach Charlseworth, Leo Mohsenzadeh-Green, Rebecca Stone, Lachlan Stewart, Talia Pike, Reed Greenwood, Lily Cave, John Horwood, Tessa Jones and Lidya Townsend were recognized last year. More than 100 people were in attendance for the ceremony last year.
