Identity, memory, nature, motherhood: these are topics artist Tamara Bond artfully explores in her first solo exhibition at Madrona Gallery from Aug. 24 to Sep. 7.

Born in Prince George, B.C., Bond emphasizes storytelling through her many mediums; collage, painting, mixed media and drawing. Her large-scale mixed media works communicate her understanding of the world, reflecting the uncertainty and beauty she finds within it.

After receiving her BFA from Emily Carr University in 1999, Bond's work has been shown in commercial and public galleries across Canada. She is also guest faculty at The Vancouver Island School of Art in Victoria where she teaches design and drawing.

Bond will be at the opening reception of her exhibit Forest Setting at Madrona Gallery on Aug. 24 from 1-3 p.m.

Artist Kimberly Kiel invites viewers to experience the beauty of the world through her eyes.

“I paint as an expression of joy and energy. It is pure delight to squeeze out huge piles of oil paint, squish it around, have it blend, meld, combine," she said. Kiel described the thick, impasto techniques her work is known for, where she layers paint to create a sense of depth and texture.

"I strive to leave much to the imagination, for the viewer to fill in the blanks. To go from a blank, white canvas to one filled with brilliant, glorious colour - there is a huge sense of satisfaction in that," Kiel said.
