The winners are in for the Oak Bay Tourism story competition.

The Oak Bay Stories Writing Contest was a chance for residents, business owners and others to share, in 500 to 1,000 words, interesting stories and favourite places in Oak Bay.

Heidi Marshall is a member of our Executive Committee and the is Oak Bay Tourism Boards Secretary who lead the charge on the daunting task of selecting a winner.

“There were many great submissions,” Marshall said. “There were historical stories, humorous stories and stories that shared personal experiences. A common theme was what a great place Oak Bay is to visit, to play and to live. I found the winning story was engaging – it made me laugh out loud, plus I learned a little bit of Oak Bay history that I never knew before.”

Submissions were narrowed down to a list of the top 12. From there a judging committee of three Oak Bay Tourism members independently read each story and ranked them from one to 12. Each ranking was given a score and the winner was determined.

The winning submission receives $500 and a feature in the Oak Bay News, while runners up are featured at OakBayTourism.com and receive $75.

The winning submission was published in the Aug. 22 print edition of the Oak Bay News.
