High water table, heavy rain cause flooding basements, roads in Oak Bay

Fire, parks departments out in force to face water this morning

While areas north of Oak Bay dealt in snow today, locally the rain filled Bowker Creek and puddled on roads.

In the heavy rain, Oak Bay Police Department reminds drivers to use caution, try to avoid hydroplaning, ensure tires have good tread and inflation, scan ahead for large puddles, reduce speed and drive straight.

With onset of high tide and a deluge of rain this morning, Oak Bay Fire Department and district public works staff have been out on calls helping with flooding since 7 a.m. Tides go out in early afternoon.
