Greater Victoria hit list of things to do this weekend

Hockey playoffs, volleyball nationals, local inventions, fundraising plunge on tap

Friday, March 9

The Victoria Grizzlies faceoff against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in game five of BCHL playoff action. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre in Colwood. The Grizzlies need a win to stay alive.

Saturday, March 10

The top collegiate men’s volleyball players in the country compete for a national championship as the Camosun Chargers host the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association nationals. The gold medal game goes Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence on Camosun’s Interurban campus. The bronze-medal game is set for 6 p.m.

The Saanich Braves host the Nanaimo Buccaneers in Game 3 of their VIJHL semifinal series. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. in Pearkes arena.

Sunday, March 11

Polar Plunge for Special Olympics BC Check in opens at 10 a.m. at Willows Beach with the swim at 11. To register, volunteer or donate visit plunge4specialolympics.com.

Some great local inventions will be on display during Sunday’s Open Innovation Challenge from 2 to 5 p.m. at Flury Hall in the Bob Wright Building of UVic. Nearby parking is free that afternoon.

Building Our Community takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Metchosin Community Hall (4401 William Head Rd.) and is a free family-friendly event and includes live entertainment with performances by the Metchosin Marimba Band, a silent auction, refreshments, and kids activities. Funds raised go towards the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees.

The Westshore Wolves take on the Campbell River Storm in game four of round two of the junior B playoffs. The puck drops at 6 p.m. at The Q Centre in Colwood.
