UVic Libraries launched a new publication Thursday (Jan. 25) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Malahat Review as part of its award-winning series on Wednesday.

Available as a free, open access PDF, The Malahat Review at Fifty: Canada’s Iconic Literary Journal features essays, critical commentaries, and memoirs from past and present editors, contributors, and editorial board members, as well as notable literary and broadcast figures such as Yann Martel, John Barton and UVic Chancellor Shelagh Rogers.

The limited-edition publication features full-colour spreads detailing the magazine’s 50 year history, its role in the lives of prominent Canadian writers, and its cultural and literary legacy.

Concurrent with the launch of UVic Libraries’ publication, a new exhibition from the Legacy Art Galleries, Landmarks: The Art of The Malahat Review opens Jan. 25 in the Legacy Maltwood Gallery in the Mearns Centre for Learning-McPherson Library. Running until May 13, the exhibition highlights the role of art in the journal and includes cover art from the UVic art collection.
