Family Day campaign goes Beyond the Box

Used clothing and linens can be dropped off at the donation boxes in the lobbies of the Oak Bay Rec Centre

The 133 children in Greater Victoria awaiting a mentor inspired Leadership Victoria’s team to organize the inaugural Beyond the Box Clothing Drive.

Oak Bay Recreation is one of the places you can drop goods to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria over the Family Day long weekend, Feb. 7 to 9. “Big” adult mentors and their “littles” will be on site at various times to greet participants and share their stories.

The drive is organized by GO BIG!, a five-person team in the 2014/15 Leadership Victoria program. A key component of the program is to undertake a Community Action Project in partnership with a local organization to address unmet needs identified in the community.

“Recreation centres across the region are holding Family Day activities, so we thought they would be the perfect venue to engage the community in supporting the needs of BBBS,”  said Leanna Young, member of GO BIG!

Bring used clothing and linens to donation boxes in the lobbies of the Oak Bay centre, 1975 Bee St. All proceeds from donations help BBBS of Victoria match children with mentors. To register your contact information for future pickups of clothing and small household items, visit bbbsvictoria.com.
