Oak Bay police seek information in cat case, prohibit driver, issue ticket after cyclists struck

A cat found soaked to the shoulders in gasoline has Oak Bay police wondering if it was an accident or an act of cruelty.

The cat was immediately bathed by the owner when it returned home in the 2100 block of Cadboro Bay Road. The cat survived the incident, which was reported on Monday, Jan. 27 at 2:14 p.m.

Grandchild scam

Oak Bay police is warning residents of a telephone scam asking for money to bail “their” grandchild out of jail.

On Feb. 1, police received a report of such a fraud. The caller claimed to be the complainant’s grandchild and then another person cames on the phone, claiming to be a lawyer, stating the grandchild was in a collision with an out-of-province rental vehicle and the only way they will be released, is if the grandparent sends money.

Anyone receiving such a call should contact police.
