The Victoria Royals struck back at the Kamloops Blazers, beating the visitors 6-4 on Tuesday and 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

It broke a streak of three straight wins by the Blazers over the Royals this season.

Steven Hodges scored both goals for the Royals on Wednesday night, bringing him to five scored in the past three games.

Tyler Stahl ripped a slapper past Blazers goalie Taran Kozun in the eighth round of the shootout. Royals netminder Patrik Polivka then got lucky as Victoria native Sam Grist, a Blazers defenceman, pulled off a filthy deke as Kamloops' eighth shooter only to have it hit the post and yield the win to the Royals. Dylan Willick and Cole Ully scored for the Blazers.

Tuesday was a massive moral victory for the Royals who overcame a 3-1 deficit to win 6-4 with a five-goal third period. Hodges scored once in the first and once in the third, with Austin Carroll,

Alex Gogolev, Bret Cote, Jack Walker all scoring in the third period. Matt Needham, Ully, Colin Smith and Tim Bozon scored for Kamloops.

Grizzlies burned by Bulldogs

A former Victoria Grizzly ended their current winning streak Teal Burns scored the winning goal for the Alberni Bulldogs in overtime last night.

Chris Albertini, Gerry Fitzgerald, Leo Fitzgerald and Josh Adkins scored for the Grizzlies. Burns scored two goals and an assist, his second game since being traded there from the Cowichan Capitals.

The Capitals visit the Grizzlies Friday (Jan. 18), 7 p.m. at Bear Mountain Arena. On Sunday the Grizz host a matinee, 1:30 p.m., versus the Vernon Vipers.

Wolves howl over Braves

The Saanich Braves' downward trend continued as the Wolves blasted the Island's second-place team 8-2.

Joel Gordon led the attack for the Wolves with four goals and one assist. Max Mois scored both Braves' goals, one of them shorthanded. The Wolves scored four powerplay goals.

Tonight (Jan. 17) the Cougars host the Oceanside Generals, 7 p.m. at Archie Browning Sports Centre. Captain Brody Coulter is aiming for his 100th point.

Friday night the Braves visit the Peninsula Panthers, 7:30 p.m. at Panorama, while the Wolves visit Campbell River.
