If our mayor and council are truly interested in collecting and spending our tax dollars in an open and transparent manner why don’t they simply stop talking about it and get on with it.
It would be truly refreshing to receive a water bill that only reflected the cost for the amount of water I purchased from our currently unelected CRD water district. If we are going to build a new sewage plant then this should be entirely reflected in our property taxes and should also be broken out as a separate line item for all to see.
Oak Bay’s current tax system and fee structures are kept as complex as possible in an effort to confuse and bewilder taxpayers who are finally starting to demand a higher level of transparency and accountability from our elected officials.
