Re: Hydro says land not sold (Oak Bay News, Wednesday, April 11)

Even though this is an issue only for Saanich and BC Hydro, I have jogged through the area and enjoyed the “ride” alongside Bowker Creek between Kings and Haultain/Richmond roads on many an occasion. It would indeed be a loss to have the area sold to a developer in entirety without consultation with the Saanich council.

The stretch under the trees is charming, especially on a sunny summer morning. The open grassland is used by dog walkers and others but I have never seen teens using it for ball practice etc. since the grass is normally much too long. The potential loss of this open area to housing development may therefore be appropriate at some time when BC Hydro no longer needs to reserve the area for a future substation, but the deprivation for the communities of both Oak Bay and Saanich of the treed area along the creek would be a great loss.
