Car door knocks out cyclist

A passing cyclist on Henderson Road was knocked over unconscious after he struck an open car door on Wednesday, July 19. The 45-year-old male cyclist regained consciousness after being tended to by the Oak Bay Fire Department. He was transported to hospital and released later that same afternoon with a concussion and bruising. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet, said first responders.

Impaired driving leads to three-car accident

Shortly before 10 p.m. on July 19 a Honda CRV was heading westbound on 2100 block of Cedar Hill Cross Rd. when it rolled onto its side after striking an unoccupied, parked Acura RSX. The impact caused a chain reaction and pushed the RSX into another unoccupied vehicle. The 82-year-old female driver was assisted from the overturned car by Oak Bay Fire and B.C. Ambulance medics and was transported to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries. Alcohol consumption may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

‘Disturbed’ man detained

Oak Bay Police officers were was travelling through the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue on Saturday (July 22) when a man ran into traffic and proceeded to slam his fist on the patrol car, meanwhile ranting at the top of his voice. Officers were able to apprehend the man without incident and transported him to the hospital for mental health treatment.

Cellos stolen from UVic building

Two cellos were stolen from University of Victoria’s secure music building lockers on July 22 without trace. One had a bright red custom case, and Oak Bay Police are looking for more information due to the “considerable” monetary value of the instruments.

Vehicle sideswiped on Victoria Avenue

A parked vehicle in 1100 block of Victoria Ave. was sideswiped by another vehicle sometime overnight on July 22 and July 23. Police say parts left behind by the impacting suspect vehicle show that it might be a 1989 to 1991 Volvo 240.
