Oak Bay Police Chief Const. Andy Brinton is back behind his desk after being sidelined by an injury in May, just after he took the position.
The new chief was mountain biking at Hartland when he flipped over the handle bar of his bike.
“I was on the job about a month. It usually takes a while to get into the swing of things – which were just starting to gel – then suddenly I’m on the sidelines,” said Brinton. “I’ve been back in the saddle for a while now and it’s going well.”
The crash broke the head of his femur bone.
“They put some screws in to hold it together as it heals,” he said. “Last week an x-ray showed it’s looking pretty good.”
He’s working on getting a full range of motion back in the injured leg and is looking forward to getting back on his bike. “I’ve been mountain biking for 14, 15 years, trail riding, stuff like that. I’ve been doing a lot of road riding since coming down here,” Brinton said.
Of the new job, Brinton said: “The learning curve is really starting to turn up, so I’m really encouraged.”
