Oak Bay’s annual Easter egg hunt expands to fill the park and adjacent parking lot this year.

“We’re thrilled to have the support of the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association because events like this are very difficult for communities to put on without resources and funding. That’s where we step in, we want to give back to the community that we’re in,” said Tony Joe, of Tony Joe and Associates that host the event in the park adjacent to municipal hall. “It’s been an event that continues to grow to the point where this year we have expanded. We’re taking over the municipal parking lot in addition to the field in the back.”

The fun, free, family event also supports the Mustard Seed Foundation through food and cash donations. The formula seems to work so he plans to stick with popular magician and entertainer Paul Kilshaw and face painting. Oak Bay police and fire will be on hand

”That’s another area kids love to check out police cars and fire trucks,” Joe.

The Easter Bunny is invited for the kids to interact with and have photos taken alongside the chocolate hunts for all ages of children.

Joe estimates about 600 to 800 kids based on the cookies and cupcakes donated each year by Fairway Market.

“I have young kids too and what better place to have them have fun that something we organize within the community?” Joe said.

The entire field will be hunting grounds this year for the egg hunts organized by age group throughout the morning.

“We have learned over time that it’s much more civilized when kids of the same age are doing their thing,” Joe said. “We’re seeing people come from all parts of the region … it ends up being a very busy day for all the businesses in Oak Bay.”

The fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt runs April 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the park adjacent to municipal hall.
