Crowds gathered around the old Johnson Street bridge Saturday morning and afternoon hoping to catch a glimpse of the new bridge parts being lifted into place.

The lower counterweight was lifted into place Saturday morning, and the north ring was installed in the afternoon. People waited at Mermaid Wharf, and stopped while crossing the old bridge hoping to get a look at the action. The bridge was closed to the public while the rings were being lifted.

The south ring is scheduled to be lifted tomorrow.
