The deadline looms to vote for Oak Bay's potential next municipal art purchase.

The deadline looms to vote for the potential next municipal art purchase.

“I’m really excited about the response to ArtsAlive and especially the sculpture walk we put through Oak Bay,” said Barbara Adams, Oak Bay arts laureate. “The 13 sculptures have drawn a lot of comments and a lot of interest. The municipality is looking forward to the one the community is going to choose for their favourite.”

This year’s sculpture walk features more than a dozen works in ArtsAlive, Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture’s annual public sculpture program where pieces are selected to be shown outdoors in our municipality for about a year.

Each artist is sponsored by a local business or community group. Until Nov. 1, the community votes for a favourite piece and the most popular work will be considered for purchase by the municipality. The other sculptures are for sale for private residences or to be donated to Oak Bay for a tax receipt.

“These sculptures have created a lot of interest and conversation in the community,”  Adams said.

Vote using your smart phone using an app for the QR code on each plaque or at Oak Bay recreation centres, arts sponsors or municipal hall. Find a downloadable map of the sculpture walk at oakbay.ca and use the QR codes adjacent to each artwork to learn more about the work and artist.

Deadline for voting is Nov. 1.
