Murray Rankin, Member of Parliament for Victoria, meets with constituents from 10 to 11 a.m. July 18 at the Monterey Recreation Centre (1442 Monterey Ave.).

“This is an opportunity to speak with your MP in an informal setting. There will be coffee, muffins and great conversation,” said Rankin’s representative, Danielle Bourgeois.

The event is part of a series taking place this summer in various local neighbourhoods, where Rankin will meet with local constituents and hear about the issues that matter most to them.

Bourgeois said when Parliament resumes in September, Rankin will make sure local priorities are represented on the national stage.

“A long-time champion of tax fairness, MP Rankin has introduced a Private Member’s Bill to crack down on tax cheats,” she said. “He opposes the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion and continues to press for federal funding of local infrastructure and affordable housing.”

Prior to serving in Parliament, Rankin built a career in law and raised a family in Victoria. While a law professor at the University of Victoria, he helped build organizations like West Coast Environment Law, The Land Conservancy of B.C. and the B.C. Public Interest Advocacy Centre.

Working with the provincial government, Rankin helped double B.C.’s parks system, negotiate treaties with First Nations and craft B.C.’s laws for privacy and freedom of information.

MP Rankin looks forward to seeing some new faces on July 18 and listening to the concerns and opinions of Oak Bay and Victoria residents.
