Old and younger tried their hand at driving mobility scooters during the Oak Bay Police Department’s first Scooter Rodeo at Willows Park.

Participants tested their skills on a cone course and practice accessing a transit bus.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever tried to do something like this in Oak Bay bringing awareness to the mobility scooter issues, sharing the sidewalk,” said Sgt. Rob Smith, Oak Bay Polie Department. The day of skill and confidence building garnered support from ICBC, Oak Bay Kiwanis, Canada Scooters, BC Transit and Telus.

“It’s been a really fun day working with the seniors coming on their scooters from as far away as Cook Street,” Smith said.
