aims to help businesses

There’s a new resource in Greater Victoria for entrepreneurs looking to launch a business.

Startup Interactive is a new service by Business Victoria that offers courses and materials to help people start businesses in the region.

The website, www.startup interactive.com, offers advice on managing the books and the people of a business, as well as on marketing, communications and planning for growth in a new business.

win scholarships

Three students from the Western Academy of Photography have won scholarships for their work.

Kristopher Gower won $1,500, Stephanie Bossler won $1,000 and Michelle Kalyk won $500 in scholarships from the Bridgestone National Photo Contest.

The competition selects the top three photos from 11 schools across Canada.

welcome at playoff event

Bring your thinking cap to the Victoria Chess Challenge, hosted by the Victoria Junior Chess club.

Winners will qualify to compete at the provincial level in April.

The Victoria tournament is open to students in kindergarten to Grade 12 from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

The event happens Feb. 20 at the University of Victoria.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with a 10 a.m. start. The entry fee is $10. Find more details at www.victoriajuniorchess.com.
